The Collins Foundation: Executive & Finance Office Administrator Position

The Collins Foundation in Portland, Oregon, seeks a full-time Executive & Finance Office Administrator to provide executive support to the CEO and CFO, as well as office administration and grantmaking support. The Foundation supports Oregon nonprofits, both urban and rural, that are dedicated to improving quality of life for their communities. The Foundation is committed to the pursuit of equity in how it allocates resources across Oregon’s diverse communities and how it shapes its internal structures.

The only constant is change…yes?

If the world has taught us nothing else in these last 18 months, it’s that we need to be able to manage constant, and often unexpected, change. Here at The Collins Foundation, it’s no exception!  Our dear CEO, Cynthia Addams stepped down in April. Our new CEO Carol Cheney is still getting her feet wet. Now we have two more changes to announce.

The Collins Foundation Announces New CEO

We are pleased to announce that we have hired a new CEO, Carol Cheney.

Carol is currently the diversity, equity, and inclusion manager at Meyer Memorial Trust, where she leads the foundation’s equity work and elevates DEI within Meyer’s organizational strategy.

We chose Carol because of her deep roots in Oregon and her extensive equity work throughout her career. She’s an inclusive collaborator who knows how to bring people together to achieve common goals.

Standing Against Hate

We are sickened by the Anti-Asian violence, aggression, and intimidation that has escalated in our country over the past year, recently claiming the lives of eight people in Atlanta, Georgia, six of them Asian American women. Our hearts ache for the families, friends, neighbors, and communities of Daoyou Feng, Delaina Ashley Yaun, Hyun Jung Grant, Paul Andre Michels, Soon Chung Park, Suncha Kim, Xiaojie Tan, and Yong Ae Yue. We cannot be silent.

Black Lives Matter

We at The Collins Foundation are devastated by the callous murder of George Floyd. We also call to mind Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Stephon Clark, Tanisha Anderson, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, and countless others who have been killed at the hands of the police and others in the recent past and throughout our country’s history. We deeply oppose the systemic racism that pervades Oregon and our country at large.

Cynthia Addams Announces Upcoming Retirement

With much appreciation for her many years of service, I share the news that Cynthia Addams will be retiring as the chief executive officer of The Collins Foundation. As of July 1, 2020, we have chosen Wahl and Associates, LLC to help us in the search for the Foundation's next chief executive.

Responding to COVID-19 In Oregon

With several thousand COVID-19 cases confirmed in Oregon and many people continuing to shelter in place, this continues to be a very challenging time for our nonprofit partners and the people and communities they serve. We recognize this has created hardships for many Oregonians, and we are continuing to respond to this difficult and evolving situation.

December 2019 Grants

For the last meeting of 2019, the Foundation approved 39 awards through our Responsive Grantmaking program, totalling approximately $1.47 provided to nonprofit organizations across Oregon.
