Find answers here to questions about our grantmaking.

    1.  Organizations must have  staff and leadership in Oregon as well as programs and/or a scope of work that directly benefits the residents of Oregon.

      For Tribal organizations: Collins recognizes that Tribal boundaries exist beyond state borders. We accept proposals from Tribal organizations whose work directly benefits Oregon residents.

    2. Non-Discrimination: We will partner with organizations with documented non-discrimination policies that guarantee equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, age, disability, or any other legally protected status.

    3. Organizations that are recognized by the IRS as a public charity described in Section 501(c)(3), or that are state, local or Tribal governmental units described in Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code are eligible for Collins GO Grants.  A fiscally-sponsored project may be eligible for funding if it has a fiscal sponsorship agreement with a qualifying public charity.

    4. Organizations that have current registration with both the offices of the Oregon Department of Justice and the Oregon Secretary of State, as required by law.

    5. Organizations with at least four independent board members. An “independent board member" is a board member who does not serve as staff for the organization.

    Each of our three grant programs has different funding priorities. Please review each program’s pages for more information about their priorities.

  • Yes. Collins is a statewide funder. Funding in rural areas is a legacy value to The Collins Foundation and the Collins family.

  • Yes. The level and duration of funding will be discussed during the exploration phase with the Community Resource Strategist. Our multi-year funding is typically two or three years.

  • Our strategic priorities:

    • Equitable Community Well-Being. 

    • Capital Assets and Intergenerational Wealth.

    • Belonging and Placemaking.

  • That's great! ​We are happy that you’re prioritizing equity ​as part of ​your organization's work.

  • No. Using the resources will not determine whether an organization will be funded. The resources are provided to support our community partners in deepening and expanding equity policies and practices in their organizations.

  • No. The Community Resource Team has compiled articles, toolkits, and guides that can be found on our Resources page.

  • No. If your organization moves forward in the review process to the exploration phase, you will be assigned a Community Resource Strategist. The screener will be discussed more with you, and additional comments can be provided then.

  • Through our Community Resource Team, Collins will provide capacity-building support to funded organizations on a case-by-case basis.

  • We will not be able to provide feedback for organization’s that are not invited to continue after completing the Partnership Alignment Screener.

  • In our emerging relational and responsive grantmaking model, the grantmaking team exists for the benefit of people and communities. 

    The focus is on working as partners by fostering mutual respect, engaging in shared decision-making, and valuing each other's perspectives and experiences. Creating an environment of mutual continuous learning and growth between nonprofits and the foundation supports transformational work for Oregon’s lands and people.
