April and June 2014 Awards

The Collins Foundation awarded more than $3.3 million to 65 Oregon nonprofits in April and June of this year.  Sixty percent of the grants will support targeted strategies designed to positively impact the lives of low-income, underserved, or culturally specific communities in Oregon.
 

African American Health Coalition – $95,000 over three years to hire a program coordinator to expand outreach/intervention to decrease the risks of chronic disease in Portland’s African American communities

– $100,000 to expand advisory and loan services to underserved women- and minority-owned small businesses in low- to moderate-income areas in Portland

Music Festival – $6,000 to support opera education, concerts, and operations for rural audiences on the NorthCoast

Birch Community Services – $19,980 to hire a program manager to expand education and skill-building programs to increase self-sufficiency of low-income families in the Portland area
 

Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation – $15,000 to purchase a bone density scanner for Blue Mountain Hospital in rural Grant County
 

Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis – $60,000 over two years to expand staffing to provide arts enrichment and career development skills to underserved, low-income, and at-risk youth in Benton County
 

Bradley Angle House – $14,000 to provide emergency shelter services for a diverse population of low-income women and their children escaping domestic violence
 

Broadway Rose Theatre Company – $12,000 to produce "The Music Man" for audiences in Washington County and the Portland metropolitan area


Cascade AIDs Project – $25,000
to assist individuals living with HIV/AIDs in the Portland area to find employmen 
 

Catlin Gabel School – $45,000 over two years to hire a KairosPDX Family Connections program coordinator to increase access to early childhood resources among low-income African American families in the Portland area
 

Causa of Oregon – $25,000 to provide culturally specific outreach to facilitate U.S. citizenship for Latinos with legal permanent residency status, many of whom are low-income, in Washington, Marion, Multnomah, Lane, and Deschutes counties
 

Chamber Music Northwest – $20,000 to present chamber music concerts, and education and outreach activities in the Portland area
 

Columbia Land Trust – $65,000 over two years to expand regional conservation and stewardship strategies east of the Cascades and across the Columbia River region
 

Community Connection of Northeast Oregon – $30,000 over three years to provide before- and after-school care and learning enrichment for school-age children in rural Oregon
 

Dental Foundation of Oregon – $30,000 over three years to provide mobile dental clinic services for low-income, culturally diverse K-12 students across Oregon
 

Dundee Woman’s Club – $40,000 to replace the roof on a historic community center serving residents in rural YamhillCounty
 

Family Building Blocks – $25,000 to expand child abuse intervention services for low-income children/families in Marion and Polk counties through a challenge match
 

Financial Stewardship Resources – $42,000 over two years to hire an educational programming director to expand board member trainings for small- and medium-sized nonprofits, primarily in rural Oregon
 

Folk-Time – $15,000 to provide peer-delivered support services and socialization in Northeast Portland for adults living with persistent mental illness
 

Foundations for a Better Oregon – $748,560 over three years to support operations; and implement the third year of TeachOregon
 

Friends of the Children-Portland – $200,000 over two years to construct an East Multnomah County facility that accommodates the agency's mentoring of culturally diverse, low-income, at-risk youth, and other youth services provided by community partners
 

Habitat for Humanity of Oregon – $100,000 to expand funding, training, and technical assistance to Habitat affiliates across Oregon to position them to provide housing and home repair assistance to low-income seniors, families, and individuals with disabilities
 

Heart of Oregon Corps – $10,000 to employ at-risk teens to restore public lands through a summer conservation program in Central Oregon
 

High Desert Museum – $32,000 to upgrade the Central Oregon museum’s technology to enhance visitors’ experiences and improve operational efficiency
 

Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce – $45,000 over two years to increase access to vocational and higher education scholarships and financial resources for low- to moderate-income Latino students in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, and Marion counties
 

I Have a Dream – $180,000 over three years to advance the Dreamer School Project’s collaborative approach to improve educational outcomes for culturally diverse, low-income students in the Reynolds School District
 

Illinois Valley Family Coalition – $6,000 to replace air conditioning and heating units in a facility that provides social services to low-income clients in rural Josephine County
 

IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization) – $70,500 over two years to increase staffing at Africa House to improve academic success and support services for low-income African immigrant and refugee youth and their families in Oregon
 

Issac’s Room – $75,000 over three years to hire program staff to expand life skills training, mentoring, and workforce development for at-risk and homeless youth in the Salem area
 

Josephy Center for Arts and Culture – $15,000 to present art exhibits and related events at a cultural center serving rural residents of Wallowa County
 

Kids Intervention & Diagnostic Service Center – $40,000 to upgrade soundproofing and technology to ensure confidentiality, safety, and security at a Central Oregon child abuse assessment facility
 

Klamath Child & Family Treatment Center – $50,000 to upgrade technology and join an electronic patient data system serving rural children, adults, and families with behavioral/mental health needs
 

Kukatonon – $5,000 to provide African culture and dance instruction, and performance opportunities primarily for African American children in the Portland area
 

LGBTQ Community Center Fund – $12,000 to build community connections and reduce social isolation for Portland area LGBTQ adults, ages 55 years and above
 

Lutheran Community Services Northwest – $10,000 to support a transitional housing program for homeless women and children in Washington County
 

Mount Hood Towne Hall Association – $20,000 to upgrade a community center and playground serving individuals and families in rural Hood River County
 

Music Camps at Wallowa Lake – $7,000 to support intensive music instruction in rural WallowaCounty for high school brass and woodwind players from across Oregon
 

My Voice Music – $5,000 to provide summer music camps in Portland for youth experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges
 

The Nature Conservancy – $200,000 over three years to restore and protect oak, prairie, and floodplain habitat in Yamhill, Polk, and Lane counties
 

Northwest Earth Institute – $25,000 to launch a peace, justice, and environmental sustainability course, and support operations
 

Northwest Housing Alternatives – $38,800 to construct a community room to serve low-income individuals and families residing at Autumn Park Apartments, an affordable housing complex in Wilsonville
 

Northwest Medical Foundation of Tillamook – $25,000 to purchase cardiac monitors/defibrillators for ambulance units serving rural residents on the North Coast
 

Northwest Outward Bound School – $10,000 to support the Pinnacle Scholarship fund for low-income Oregon youth to participate in wilderness mentoring programs
 

Open Meadow Alternative Schools – $300,000 over three years to implement a new educational model and school in EastMultnomahCounty to prepare culturally diverse, at-risk middle and high school students for post-secondary success
 

Ophelia’s Place – $40,000 over two years to expand school-based mental health and empowerment programs in LaneCounty for at-risk girls, ages 10-18
 

Oregon Abuse Advocates and Survivors in Service (OAASIS) – $15,000 to hire an education and outreach director to increase statewide community engagement to end child sexual abuse
 

Oregon Black Pioneers Corporation – $20,000 to produce an exhibit tracing migration of African Americans to and within Oregon in the 1940s and 1950s for display at Oregon Historical Society and other venues
 

Oregon Coast Aquarium – $50,000 to produce “Shipwrecks,” a marine archeology and ocean exploration exhibit
 

Oregon Council for the Humanities – $18,000 to provide a humanities course for low-income individuals in the Portland area and a summer humanities camp for a diverse mix of teens and high school faculty from across Oregon
 

Painted Sky – $5,000 to connect reservation- and urban-based Native American youth to their cultural roots through traditional dance instruction and performances
 

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon – $50,000 over two years to expand after-school and summer meal programs for low-income and impoverished children across Oregon
 

Peter Britt Gardens Music and Arts Festival Association – $16,000 to support the Classical Festival in Jacksonville and increase access for underserved adults, seniors, and students
 

Portland Audubon Society – $45,000 to build two yurts and improve emergency vehicle access and fire safety at Miller Sanctuary’s outdoor education site
 

Portland Playhouse – $15,000 to produce “After the Revolution” for the theater’s diverse audiences in Northeast Portland
 

St. Andrew Nativity School – $25,000 to increase staffing to expand support services and provide mentoring for low-income, culturally diverse students in N/NE Portland and East Multnomah County who are transitioning into high school, college, and careers.
 

South Lincoln Resources – $20,000 to improve drainage and parking areas at a newly-purchased facility that houses social and basic needs programs serving low-income, rural residents on the central coast
 

Street Books – $3,000 to expand access to literature and social engagement for homeless people in Portland
 

Sustainable Northwest – $20,000 to expand a water and energy savings project in rural KlamathBasin, and build a sustaining donor base through a challenge match
 

Tillamook Serenity Club – $5,000 to expand the program manager position to serve more individuals in recovery from addictions in rural Tillamook County
 

TLC-TnT (Tender Loving Care, Think and Try) – $5,000 to provide stipends for culturally diverse, low-income teens to plan and supervise day camp activities for low-income, culturally diverse K-8 students in North Portland
 

Tualatin Riverkeepers – $14,000 to support operations to strengthen equity, diversity, and inclusion of culturally diverse residents living in the Tualatin watershed  
 

Westwind Stewardship Group – $30,000 to support agency operations, and provide scholarships for low-income youth from diverse, underserved communities to attend summer camp on the Oregon Coast
 

White Bird – $35,000 over two years to expand outreach to diversify contemporary dance audiences in Portland to include more individuals under the age of 40, people of color, and individuals with disabilities
 

World Forestry Center – $25,000 to present two exhibits for children and families to the Discovery Museum in Portland
