August 2016 Grants

At the August meeting of the Trustees, The Collins Foundation was proud to award 27 single-year grants and 8 multi-year grants, totaling nearly $1.2 million to nonprofits across Oregon.





Arts

Arts Alliance of Yamhill County -- $2,500  to provide artists studio visits and hands-on arts education for k-12 students in rural yamhill county

Eugene Concert Choir -- $9,000  to support a season of choral music performances, education, and outreach for audiences in lane county

Grande Ronde Symphony Association -- $5,000  to support orchestral and chamber music concerts for children and adults in rural northeast oregon

Portland Center Stage -- $100,000  to present a season of plays, arts enrichment, and education/outreach programs for audiences in the portland area

Portland Revels -- $7,000  to present "christmas revels" featuring traditional music, dance, and storytelling from 16th century venice for audiences in portland

 
 

Children & Youth

Kukatonon -- $25,000 over two years to establish a program manager position for a performing arts program serving african and african american youth primarily from low-income, multnomah county families

Maslow Project -- $30,000  to expand case management and advocacy services for homeless youth and their families in jackson and josephine counties

New Avenues for Youth -- $75,000 over two years to operate an alternative high school to serve homeless youth in portland 

Northwest Outward Bound School -- $10,000  to deliver a year-round, school-based youth development program for low-income middle and high school students of color in the reynolds school district

 

 

Community Welfare

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention -- $10,000  to present suicide prevention and intervention programs in oregon high schools and communities

ARC of Benton County -- $23,500  to provide staffing and trainee wages for a  supported employment program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in benton county

Battered Persons' Advocacy -- $35,000  to repair and remodel two emergency shelter facilities serving low-income survivors of domestic and sexual violence in douglas county

Bradley Angle House -- $17,450  to provide staffing for a culturally responsive, bilingual domestic violence advocacy program serving low-income latino families in east multnomah county

Edwards Work-Activity Center -- $40,000  to construct barrier-free homes in an intentional community serving low-income washington county adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers

Jacksonville Community Center -- $40,000  to expand a community center to increase access to educational, cultural, and civic activities for all residents in the jacksonville area through a challenge match

Marie Mills Center -- $7,500  to purchase an emergency generator for a supported living residence serving low-income adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in tillamook county

Project Dove -- $21,000  to purchase a vehicle to serve victims of domestic or sexual violence in rural malheur county

Rogue Valley Council of Governments -- $80,000  to purchase a property to establish a central site for community food programs serving low-income and homebound seniors in rural josephine county

Rose Haven CIC -- $20,000  to support staffing and project expenses for a meal program serving low-income, portland-area women and children experiencing trauma from abuse and homelessness

Sisters of the Road -- $20,000  to engage individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness through shared meals, job training, and food justice programs in portland through a challenge match

St. Andrew Legal Clinic -- $25,000  to provide affordable legal services for low-income working adults and families in multnomah, washington, clackamas, columbia, and yamhill counties

Transition Projects -- $80,000 over two years to fully implement a culturally responsive certification program to train and utilize formerly homeless adults as peer mentors for homeless individuals in portland 

United Cerebral Palsy Association of Oregon and Southwest Washington -- $15,000  to support staffing to expand supported employment services to serve more individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in clackamas county

WinterSpring Center Transforming Grief and Loss -- $25,000 over two years to expand in-school and community-based bereavement support for children and youth in jackson county

Rogue Valley Family YMCA -- $35,000  to upgrade an aquatic center serving medford-area children, youth, adults, seniors, and individuals with disabilities

 
 

Education

Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce -- $45,000 over two years to support staffing for a culturally specific higher education and career transition program for low-income latino students in the greater portland area 

Klamath Outdoor Science School -- $35,000  to construct a permanent kitchen/dining hall and restroom facilities at an outdoor school site in klamath county for students, families, and science educators

Neighborhood House -- $30,000  to renovate classroom areas at peninsula children's learning center to serve low-income families in north and northeast portland

POIC (Rosemary Anderson High School) -- $80,000 over two years to expand alternative high school instruction, workforce training, and after-school programs for low-income youth of color in multnomah county

 
 

Environment

Our United Villages (The Rebuilding Center) -- $30,000  to hire an assistant manager of deconstruction services to build capacity for more living wage jobs in the trades for underrepresented communities

Trash for Peace -- $5,000  to provide staffing to expand culturally responsive sustainability education for a diverse mix of low-income rockwood neighborhood residents, including immigrants, refugees, and english language learners

Wild Rivers Land Trust -- $55,000 over three years to acquire, restore, and permanently protect natural habitats along watersheds and estuaries in oregon’s southern coastal region

 
 

Health & Science

Center for Community Counseling -- $10,000  to provide affordable mental health services for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals and families in lane county through a challenge match

HIV Alliance -- $35,000 over two years to provide hiv, hepatitis c, and sexually transmitted infections prevention programs to at-risk communities in lane, douglas, josephine, curry, and marion counties

Mental Health for Children (The Child Center) -- $100,000  to construct a mental health and wellness center to serve more low-income lane county children with mental or behavioral health disorders and their families
